Port coach Jesse Smith signs contract extension
THE Portarlington Demons have made a significant investment in their future with the re-signing of coach Jesse Smith.
Smith, in his second year at the club, has committed for the next two years.
In announcing the contract extension to the senior playing group, president Andrew Aquilina said the decision to extend Smith’s contract had been unanimously agreed to by the Board.
The club is determined to bring its supporters sustained and long-term on-field success and believes that Smith is the person to take the Demons up the ladder.
During the off-season Port recruited 11 new players and will continue to work hard to bring in elite talent.
Smith has been impressed with the professionalism of the playing group and is pleased in the faith the club has shown in him.
“I didn’t want to go anywhere, you fall in love with the place,” he said.
His passion for the Demons was evident in his well-publicised three quarter time address in Port’s famous victory against Drysdale on Anzac Day.
Smith who is working well with assistants Adrian Carr and James Morgan has developed a game plan which has challenged the Bellarine Football League’s best sides in the first third of the 2018 season.
When the Demons are able to sustain the plan for longer, the club is confident that more wins will come.
The Demons are also in discussions to shore up the coaching setup ahead of another busy off season
