PORTARLINGTON will turn to a sea of pink on Saturday afternoon for the local cricket club’s Pink Stumps Day fundraiser

The Portarlington Cricket Club event will aim to raise more than $3,000 for breast cancer research through the The McGrath Foundation.

The 5th anniversary of the fundraiser will feature a high tea lunch and bubbles, guest speakers, raffles and entertainment by The Shelleys.

The second XI cricket side will also be playing during the function and will be wearing pink hats to support the cause.

Club committee member Louise Tilders said the club was expecting a bumper crowd at Portarlington Recreation Reserve.

“We are really excited for the day and to be again supporting such an amazing cause that touches so many people in our community.

“We are estimating we will have about 70 at the function. One in seven women experience breast cancer in their lifetime. It works out about one in 10 of us at the function will go through it, which is a scary statistic.

“It’s why we are turning pink and trying to do our bit to better this prognosis.

“We can’t wait, and here’s hoping we can climb above our fundraising target.”
