MORE than 20,000 people will flock to the Bellarine next weekend for the 18th edition of the Portarlington Mussel Festival.

The volunteer-run event will take over the Portarlington foreshore on January 10, serving up fresh mussels alongside cooking demonstrations, roving performers, market stalls and live music.

More than 100 vendors will be on site, offering a mix of hot food, artisan produce and locally made products.

The day will finish with a headline performance from Elton Jack, who is billed as the world’s leading Elton John tribute show.

Festival director, Ian Favarger, said the event continued to reflect strong community pride and volunteer commitment.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome everyone back in 2026 for another fantastic event,” he said.

“This festival is a true reflection of the Portarlington spirit, and its success is a direct result of the dedication and hard work of our amazing volunteers.

“Their passion, along with the generous support of our sponsors, is what brings this community celebration to life and allows us to showcase our local mussel industry and the people who make this town so special.”

First held in 2007 as a small street celebration, the festival has grown into one of Victoria’s most popular coastal events.

It has returned more than $250,000 to local community initiatives, with all funds raised again set to be distributed to groups that assist on the day.

Entry is $10, with tickets available at the gate.
