Port townhouse application withdrawn

October 3, 2018 BY

RESIDENTS campaigning against a proposal for five three-storey townhouses in Portarlington welcomed news last week that the developer had withdrawn its application.

Peninsula Planning Consultants Pty Ltd submitted a planning application with the City of Greater Geelong Council earlier this year to build the town houses, as well as requesting a reduction to the standard car parking requirement.

After being notified about the developer’s plans, residents were very vocal about their objections and even formed the “Park Street Development Protest Group”.

In a letter to one of the objectors last Monday, the City stated that a planning permit application for 8 Park Street would no longer be pursued.

Acting director of planning and development Joanne Van Slageren said the city received 54 objections to the planning permit application, which related to neighbourhood character, building setback, landscaping, traffic and safety concerns and building height.
