Portarlington Community Carols: Festive cheer returns to the foreshore
COMMUNITY Carols will once again grace the Portarlington foreshore for a night of singing and festive fun.
The beloved event will be held tonight (Friday, December 15) at the W.G. Little Reserve in Portarlington, located behind the Senior Citizens Club building in Newcombe Street.
The community can expect performances from several talented locals including the Geelong Harmony Chorus and Rose Chambers, who has been performing at the carols since she was seven years old.
The Portarlington Community Carols always draw an impressive crowd.
Last year’s attendees totalled between 650-700 people and a similar number is expected this year.
Event organiser Julie Rock said she was looking forward to another enjoyable year of carols.
“It’s very much a community event, that’s what so special about it,” she said.
“We love outdoor events in Portarlington so it’s a great addition to the social calendar.
“It’s just a really family-friendly, fun night and it has all the essential elements of a great carols night.”
Santa, the event’s very important guest, will make an appearance during the evening along with firefighters from the local Country Fire Authority (CFA), and primary-aged children are invited to dress up and participate in a live nativity scene and parade.
Ms Rock said attendees were welcome to begin arriving from 6.30pm to secure their spot on the grass.
“People can bring a picnic or grab pizza or fish and chips from the local shops. It’s all walking distance,” she said.
There will be a sausage sizzle, beginning at 7pm, and a coffee van on site.
The carols will begin at 7.30pm and people are encouraged to bring their own chairs and picnic rugs.
