THE Portarlington Golf Club have fought off strong competition to take out the top place for best Legends Tour pro-am event at this year’s Victorian Golf Industry Awards.

Held in February, the Sheen Panel Service Legends Pro-Am was highly praised by the visiting professionals who voted ahead of the other finalists and were unanimous in their appreciation for the presentation of the course.

The Victorian Golf Industry Awards celebrate golf in Victoria and honour those who have made a significant impact on the sport in the past year.

Sheen Panel Service, a new sponsor to the event led by Ocean Grove and Drysdale manager Josh Hewlett, went the extra mile in bringing activations to life on course.

Portarlington Golf Club chief executive officer Michael Phillips said it was an honour to receive the award, given how many clubs were involved in the Legends Tour.

“We could not be more appreciative of how much Josh Hewlett and his team and Sheen Panel Service contributed to helping us take it to the next level.

“And from there it’s a huge credit to all involved in our team in staging the event, particularly the presentation of the course by Steve Burchett and his crew.

“It’s a huge honour and I hope everyone in the club is really proud that we’re at that level of recognition from those who have played at national and international level through their careers.”

Mr Hewlett was delighted to play a key part in the award.

“We’re very proud of our involvement and it’s a great honour to be acknowledged like that, for us and the club,” he said.

“We look forward to working with the club on next year’s event and building it into the future.”
