Positive Ageing Advisory Committee announces new member

October 3, 2019 BY

Sue Cole replaces Deb Campbell on the Surf Coast Shire Council’s Positive Ageing Committee.

SUE Cole is the newest member of the Surf Coast Shire’s Positive Ageing Advisory Committee, bringing 45 years of experience in health care to the role.

Ms Cole is replacing Deb Campbell in the volunteer position.

Cr Margot Smith said Ms Campbell had achieved much in the role, and that Ms Cole was well-equipped to continue her legacy.

“Deb has made an outstanding contribution and on behalf of the committee. We thank her for insights and her strong advocacy for the interests of older people.

“We are very lucky to have had someone of the calibre of Deb on the committee and equally fortunate to have Sue join us. Sue has a great attitude and I’m confident she will prove to be a terrific addition to what is a very active and engaged group.”

Ms Cole worked as a nurse manager in Colac before retiring in 2018.

She says she is optimistic about her new role.

“Some people lobbied for me to join the committee and I thought why not.

“Personally I feel very positive about ageing. As a nurse on any day of the week I could name at least five people who would have given anything for the opportunity to get old so it’s given me a perspective about life.”

The Surf Coast Shire established the Positive Ageing Advisory Committee in October 2018.

Its purpose is to provide advice to the council on its service reforms and its broader program to create an age-friendly Surf Coast Shire.
