Potato Shed’s search for new community member begins

February 11, 2023 BY

The Potato Shed's Committee of Management is seeking expressions of interest from interested persons to fill a community representative position, in accordance with the Potato Shed's Joint Use Agreement.

DRYSDALE’S Potato Shed has begun a search for its new community representative to join its Committee of Management.

Potato Shed chair and City of Greater Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan said the theatre’s ideal candidate will help the committee make a difference on the Bellarine, ensuring the Potato Shed continues to provide relevant services, opportunities, and benefits to the community.

“The ideal candidate will be a person who has a strong interest in the local arts, and in particular local theatre, and someone who knows and respects the venue,” Mr Sullivan said.

“This could be a patron or a member of one of the community groups who utilise the facility.”

The Potato Shed has continued to facilitate the development and realisation of the creative arts, especially the performing arts along the Bellarine, since it was officially opened in 2001.

Now the venue is seen as the City of Greater Geelong’s own arts facility for education and training opportunities for young people seeking to engage in artistic pursuits.

Mr Sullivan listed several obligations the community representative would need to fulfil upon their appointment.

“The successful candidate would need to attend Committee of Management meetings and ensure that the venue operates under the Joint Use Agreement with the Council and the two partner schools [Bellarine Secondary College and Saint Ignatius College], whilst still providing opportunities for other users and community groups,” he added.

“The community representative will work with Council and the schools to shape the future direction and expansion of the facility.

“This includes promoting and advocating for the venue, its activities, and its programs.”

The expressions of interest are urged to be lodged with council by close of business Friday, February 17, and should be addressed to Venue Manager Rob MacLeod at [email protected].
