Prize to be illuminated on Queenscliff Pier
THE QUEENSCLIFF Arts Prize has received the ultimate boost into the spotlight with solar powered lights to illuminate artworks on the historic Queenscliff Pier in 2022-23.
Prize curator Chris MacLeod announced last week that the lighting will be a feature of the second year of the annual arts prize, providing more flavour to the exhibition which is arguably Australia’s biggest outdoor arts event.
“We are thrilled that over 150 pieces of artwork which are to be installed along the historic Queenscliff Pier will now be up in lights each evening thanks to new solar powered LED lights,” MacLeod said.
“Lighting each of the artworks will offer a truly unique way of experiencing the art.
“The addition of the lighting is expected to attract many thousands of visitors to the pier over the summer months and we truly can’t wait.”
MacLeod said he has sourced and paid for the lights, ordering them from an offshore supplier this year to give the exhibition more appeal and greater viewership throughout the summer period.
He believes that the enhancement will assist in growing the outdoor art exhibition for many years to come, giving onlookers the opportunity to see the pieces by day and night as they overlook the beautiful Port Phillip Bay.
Entries have been flying into the prize thus far, with the committee encouraging all artists to submit their pieces to a range of categories, including photographs, paintings, and drawings.
The Queenscliff Arts Prize begins on November 1 and runs throughout summer until April 30.
