Probus Club of Ocean Grove-Surfside to celebrate 25th anniversary
THE Probus Club of Ocean Grove-Surfside is getting ready to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
Members and guests will gather for fun and friendship at a “Dine-Out” event on February 11.
A highlight for the night will be the launch of the booklet, A 25th Anniversary History of the Ocean Grove-Surfside Probus Club, celebrating 25 Years of Fun, Friendship and Fellowship.
The club, formed at a meeting organised by the Rotary Club of Ocean Grove on February 19, 2001 is strong and thriving with 110 members, 12 of which are foundation members.
The initial concept of Probus was born from a Rotary initiative, designed to provide an organisation for retired professional and business people.
It now embraces all retired or semi-retired people to meet, enjoy fellowship, listen to speakers, and participate in outings and other activities.
“Looking back, I am proud that many close and enduring friendships developed during those early days and when members enjoy each other’s company, activities and outings are embraced and supported,” inaugural club president Graeme May said.
“I believe this is continuing now, 25 years on.”
Incumbent president Michael Laffin has saluted those who have served the club so well over of the past 25 Years and thanks them for what they have done.
“We look to the future as a time for fun, connecting and looking out for each other, while considering the challenge to try new adventures, activities, ideas.”
Going forward, technology will drive much of what the club does and the club is embracing it, setting up a website (surfsideprobus.org.au) and Facebook page (Probus Club of Ocean Grove – Surfside Inc.).
The club meets at 10.30am on the third Monday of the month at Shell Road Pavilion, Ocean Grove. Prospective members are welcome.
