Put some mussel into it with Port Phillip Ferries

March 27, 2019 BY

Get the lowdown on the local and treasured region that produces up to 60 percent of Australia’s mussels.

YOU asked, they listened. By popular demand, Port Phillip Ferries have released a new run of “Mussels, Wine and Bay Cruise” events for April – a unique series of afternoon cruises along the Bellarine coastline and surrounding mussel farms.

Hop on board the Bellarine Express at Portarlington for a leisurely afternoon voyage and get the lowdown on the local and treasured region that produces up to 60 percent of Australia’s mussels.

Picture this – as you head down Portarlington Pier, you’ll arrive to the smell of locally caught mussels. Just before you hop on board for your hour-long cruise, you’ll enjoy a sample from the freshest mussels you’ve ever tasted.

Once on board, the captain will shout you a drink from the licensed café – try a local cider, wine, beer or other hot and cold drinks. If you’re still peckish, you can purchase other snacks from the café, too.

And the best part of all? Local gem Peter from Advanced Mussel Supply and The Little Mussel Café will be on hand to give the inside scoop on what goes on behind the scenes to bring this delicious product to your plate (or bowl).

This is the perfect chance to get a taste of the Port Phillip Ferry experience outside of their normal scheduled services.

Enjoy the sea breeze from the outdoor decks or take in the spectacular views of the Bellarine coastline from the comfy indoor seats aboard the Bellarine Express.

Cost: $25 for adults and $15 for children (kids three and under free).

Weekend events: April 6 and April 14, 2.30-3.30pm.

Mid-week school holiday events: April 10 and April 17, 1.30-2.30pm.

Mussel tasting starts at 1:10pm. Departing and arriving from Portarlington Pier.
