Queenscliff Art Prize entry period a week away
HOPEFUL local and national artists and photographers will have the opportunity to show their work along the historic Queenscliff pier in an outdoor art exhibition.
Queenscliff Art Prize director Chris MacLeod believes there will be a large influx of submissions for the upcoming art prize when entry applications open on June 1 for the 2022-23 event, which follows a successful 2021-22 event.
“This event will remain a fun and interesting one and I’m hoping it’ll be much bigger this year,” Mr MacLeod said.
“I spent a lot of time on the Queenscliff Pier during the last event and I received a huge amount of positive feedback.
“Last year we had 105 works of fine art and then we added 25 photographic works. I’m optimistic we’ll match that number this time around and then some.”
Queenscliff Art Prize 2022-2023 will open November 1 and run through to the end of April 2023, with Mr MacLeod saying he is hopeful more local artists will participate in this year’s event.
“There weren’t terribly many artists from the Greater Geelong and Bellarine area in the art prize just gone by,” Mr MacLeod said.
“I searched for a lot of artists in the area, but a lot of the works in the galleries across the region were from further afield.
“There were a few local artists, namely Chris Box and Pip Williams to name a couple, but we are eager to feature many more artists and photographers from the Surf Coast and greater Bellarine region in 2022-23.”
Artists participating in the Queenscliff Art Prize are required to send a digital file of their art, unlike other art exhibition/competitions when entries open.
The digital images are carefully reproduced onto the aluminium exhibition panels which are placed onto the Queenscliff Pier for the duration of the exhibition.
“This is simple and convenient for the artist, but unlike other exhibitions where originals are hung, we require some considerable production time, and it is for this reason that we open for entries some months in advance,” Mr MacLeod said.
