Queenscliff Sport and Recreation Precinct reaches completion
A MULTI-MILLION-dollar infrastructure project is now complete and will bring greater sporting opportunities to the Borough of Queenscliffe.
The Honourable Ros Spence MP, Minister for Community Sport joined Member for Bellarine Alison Marchant and mayor Cr Isabelle Tolhurst in Queenscliff on Tuesday to unveil a plaque to commemorate the completion of the Queenscliff Sport and Recreation Precinct Development Project.
The new space offers a modern, accessible multi-sport and recreation hub which will accommodate resident clubs and attract locals to participate in outdoor activities.
Inside the precinct, the Monahan Centre features a new community gymnasium, social and club rooms, a first aid room, bathrooms and kitchenette.
Two Netball Australia-standard courts with female friendly accessible change rooms, a new four wicket cricket training facility, and a covered deck for spectators also lie within the precinct.
In addition, the Borough renewed caravan park toilets and showers at the nearby Hesse Street caravan park amenities block and built two family rooms accessible for all abilities.
An electrical upgrade has also been made to consolidate the sport and recreation precinct to a single point of electrical supply.
The Borough says the upgrades will help to create an overall environment which encourages residents to take part in organised sport within their local community.
‘We [were] delighted to have The Honourable Ros Spence MP, Minister for Community Sport here in the Borough to officiate the completion of this project,” Borough of Queenscliffe mayor Isabelle Tolhurst said.
“Investment in community sports infrastructure increases participation and improves community health and wellbeing, contributing to a culture where sport is more accessible.
“The plaque unveiling marks the successful conclusion of a five-year project that locals and visitors alike will benefit from for many years to come.”
Member for Bellarine, Alison Marchant also threw her support behind the new project.
“Queenscliff is home to a community that is passionate about sport and recreation – I’m very pleased to see we now have appropriate facilities that we can be proud of.”
The Queenscliff Sport and Recreation Precinct Development Project received $3.3 million of funding from the state government and $835,000 from the Borough of Queenscliffe.
