Queenscliff to go gold for golf
MORE than 50 women will gather today (Friday, August 23) to contest the 44th annual Ladies Golden Putter competition at the Queenscliff Golf Club.
The event on Swan Island will celebrate women’s contributions to golf and feature 27 teams from around the state. Today’s winning pair will win what has become one of the most sought-after prizes in local golf: the golden putter.
The Golden Putters have been donated by Anthony Webber from Lake and Land, a civil contracting business in Geelong.
Club captain Barbara Luppino said excitement was high for a good day out on course.
“Historically, golf has been such a male-dominated sport, so an event like this is a great way to spotlight our fantastic women.
“It’s very prestigious to have a dipped putter. For a while it was the only event with a prize like this up for grabs for women.
“We all like a bit of bling, so I’m sure it will be wanted by many players. Competition will be social, but our pairs will want that putter!”
Players will tee off at the same time, and then have a two-course lunch after the tournament.
A range of items will be auctioned and raffled to support local charities in need.
Prizes will also be up for grabs for closest shot to the pin and runners up.
