Star writers on The Bellarine

December 5, 2019 BY

Leopold Primary School’s Sienna Harrison won the Essay category.

THE annual Queenscliffe Rotary writing competition attracted plenty of entries from across the Bellarine Peninsula, covering Year 5 and 6 primary school pupils.

Pupils had a choice of two categories, one for essay writing while the other was for creative writing compositions.

Karen Pecar, president of the Rotary Club of Queenscliffe, said the entries were ‘very high standard’, giving the competition adjudicator a difficult job.

“It was a real pleasure to hand out the awards to these talented students at their school assemblies.

“This was the first year we opened the competition up to students outside the Borough of Queenscliffe and we hope even more students will enter next year.”

Sienna Harrison (Leopold Primary School) and Tessa Horne (Point Lonsdale Primary School) came first and second place in the essay category writing about the topic “If I were Prime Minister for a week…”

Laura Ahearn (Point Lonsdale Primary School) and Josephine Leonard (Star of the Sea Primary School) took out first and second prizes in the creative writing category with their stories about “A funny thing happened on the way to school today.”

The first prize winners received $100 for their efforts with $50 for the second prize winners.
