Rain fails to mussel in on good time

January 18, 2018 BY

RAIN didn’t stop the thousands of visitors who descended on the Portarlington Mussel Festival from enjoying themselves at the weekend.

Organisers hailed the annual event on Saturday as another great festival, and wanted to thank everyone who attended, volunteered and provided sponsorship.

“Although we had a bit of rain it didn’t dampen the spirits of anyone and we all had fun,” they said.

Tanya Thornton said: “What an amazing day and atmosphere. Plenty to do, see and eat with a perfect back drop of gorgeous Portarlington. Congratulations to the community and army of volunteers – best event I’ve been to in years. We will definitely be back next year!”

More than 200 volunteers, some from local organisations or who rocked up for the fun of it, worked tirelessly to make sure a great time was had by all.

There was music on four stages all day and more than 100 food and market stalls offering local foods and produce, and wines and beers.

Funds raised from this year’s festival will be donated to local organisations.
