Raise a teacup for a good cause
Cancer Council Victoria is encouraging groups across the state to make a cuppa for a cause and register for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea during May or June to support people affected by cancer and raise vital funds for Victorians who are affected by cancer.
While the official day to host a morning tea in 2022 is May 19, people can register to host at any time throughout May or June.
By hosting or attending a morning tea, people will help Cancer Council Victoria continue its life-saving cancer research, prevention, advocacy, and support programs for the more than 34,000 Victorians who are diagnosed with cancer each year.
This year, Cancer Council hopes to recruit more than 22,000 generous morning tea hosts nation-wide and raise over $11.6 million nationally to help those who are affected by cancer right across Australia.
Cancer Council Victoria’s head of fundraising Lyrian Fleming-Parsley said Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea events provide both a chance to fundraise for an important cause, and an opportunity to connect with others.
“After two years of the pandemic, we’re thrilled Victorians across the state will be connecting over a cuppa for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea. The national fundraising event provides a time for us to come together and strengthen the community and raise vital funds for cancer care and research.
“It has been a difficult few years for all Victorians, and the pandemic has meant additional challenges of isolation and anxiety for many people going through cancer treatment during this time.
“Cancer impacts all of us. Around 1.2 million Australians are currently living with cancer and one Australian is diagnosed with cancer approximately every four minutes, the length of an average tea break.
“On behalf of Cancer Council Victoria, I thank everyone who is participating in Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea this year.
“Money raised at morning teas across the country will support Cancer Council’s cancer research, prevention and support, and help us keep working toward a cancer-free future for all,” she said.
