Red Cross volunteers call for donations this March

March 13, 2019 BY

DEDICATED volunteers will be out and about across the Bellarine this month fundraising for Red Cross Calling.

While the number of door-knockers has decreased this year, volunteers will be collecting in Leopold at Bunnings Leopold, Gateway Plaza, and the shopping strips in Dorothy Street and Ash Road, and in Newcomb Central.

Leopold’s Marie-Louise, along with her loveable Golden Retriever Lucy, began volunteering for the Red Cross last year and said she loved the contact with people and knowing the money was going to a good cause.

The duo will be collecting at Bunnings Leopold this month as Lucy is already familiar with the store as a frequent visitor and its adoring staff members.

“We often have kids lining up to pat her and then the parents end up donating!” Marie-Louise said.

A group of volunteers met at Estia Health Leopold last week to mark the start of the appeal.

Ninety-nine-year-old Elizabeth Read, a resident of the home and a volunteer of the Red Cross for many years, was also in attendance.

For more than 70 years, the Red Cross has been reaching out to communities in March to raise funds to support the great work they do.

Red Cross helps people in need, whether it’s providing disaster relief, helping vulnerable people in the local community, or providing long-term assistance to communities overseas after a disaster, they’re always there to support people in times of crisis.
