Registrations open for DSA Ocean Grove sessions
REGISTRATIONS are now open to those keen to volunteer and put “smiles on dials” at the Disabled Surfing Association’s local meetings in 2025.
The Disabled Surfing Association will be back on the beach at Ocean Grove on the first Sunday in February and March (Feb 2 and March 2).
The two meets will run from 8am to 12:30pm and volunteers can either stay for the whole event or do a short shift if needed.
Most volunteers will be needed in the water to guide surfers; however land roles and administration positions are also available for those wanting to lend a hand.
DSA national president Phil Christie said excitement is high for the much-loved events return in 2025.
“This year is year 15 and we are really excited for it.
“This program gives back. It makes someone else’s day special and the looks on their faces are incredible.
“If we could get over 200 volunteers it would be exceptional. The more makes it easier for everyone involved.”
Surfer numbers are estimated to be at about 15-20 throughout the day.
“We open up a certain number of spots for surfers, and if volunteer numbers spike up, we can offer more surfers a spot.
“The body will hurt for a day or two, but to get these guys in the water and get them smiling, you’ll see its incredibly worth it.
“You’ve got 363 days to recover afterwards!”
