THE community is being encouraged to get their bodies moving and push up for better mental health this June.
The Push Up Challenge is Australia’s largest mental health and fitness event and will run from June 4-26.
This year, participants will complete 3,214 pushups over 23 days to represent the 3,214 lives lost to suicide in Australia in 2023.
The event is free to take part in, and fundraising is optional for a selection of chosen mental health charities.
Local participants can choose to support Lifeline Geelong’s critical crisis support services, so they can remain available to anyone who needs them anytime, anywhere.
Every day, Lifeline receives more than 3,500 calls from Australians in their toughest moments, equivalent to more than one call every 25 seconds.
Participants can also support headspace or The Push for Better Foundation.
Both individual and teams entries are welcome.
Those who can’t push up can take part in the challenge by doing sit-ups, star jumps, or modified movements – all exercise counts.
