Relay For Life gets the Bellarine moving

December 8, 2017 BY

ABOUT 400 people walked laps around Leopold Primary School’s oval at the weekend to help fight cancer.

Bellarine Relay For Life on Saturday and Sunday raised an impressive $46,971 for Cancer Council Victoria’s research, prevention and support services.

During the event, participants celebrated local cancer survivors, patients and their carers, and honoured and remembered loved ones lost to cancer, while raising money to help save more lives.

They also listened to performances by Coolchange, The Black Hounds and Avalon, and enjoyed a hot breakfast on Sunday cooked by the Lions Club of Leopold for a gold coin donation.

Team Loz, headed by Leopold local and relay Chair Manager Loz Hardman, raised $6,096 from her fundraising efforts throughout the year.

“Thank you to everyone who walked laps, donated or came along to support our team,” Loz said.

“Everyone did an amazing job – you all should be very proud of yourselves.”

Participant Patrick Smith walked non-stop around the track for 20 hours – a very impressive effort.

Leopold local Tamara Allan said, “Well done to all who took part in this year’s relay, what a fantastic group of people touched by cancer, all with a passion and determination to contribute to important cancer research”.

“And congratulations to the small organising team on a well organised event.”
