Remembrance Day has a special significance in 2018

TO COMMEMORATE the centenary of the Armistice that ended World War I, the Bellarine will host a number of ceremonies this Sunday.

Drysdale
The ceremony for the Remembrance Day Service and Veterans & Community March will include a formal wreath laying and poppy laying service, and will begin with a march from the Drysdale CFA forecourt with step off at 10.15am. As is customary each year on this day, we will observe one minute’s silence at 11am, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts.

The Drysdale RSL Sub Branch, together with the Springdale Neighbourhood Centre, is holding a free family event following the Drysdale Remembrance Ceremony, with lots of family entertainment on offer.

Ocean Grove & Barwon Heads
Remembrance Day Service with Mr Phillip Christian and the Ocean Grove Scout Group will begin at 10.45am at the Ocean Grove Cenotaph. emembrance Day Service with Mr John Minotti and students from the Barwon Heads Primary School will begin at 10.45am at the Barwon Heads Community Hall in Hitchcock Ave.

Mannerim
Mannerim Memorial Indigenous Garden Remembrance Day Service at 10.15am at Swan Bay Rd (next to Bellarine Rail Trail). Maggie Stowers, a researcher from Queenscliffe Historical Museum, will give the main address. Maggie has extensively researched World War I hostilities in France, and will be presenting her research on a local serviceman whose name is listed on the Memorial plaque.

Leopold
The Leopold 2018 Remembrance Day service will be held at the Leopold War Memorial at 10.30am.

Queenscliff & Pt Lonsdale
The Queenscliff/Point Lonsdale RSL Sub-Branch will hold a Remembrance Day March to Fort Queenscliff. Assemble for the March at the corner of Symonds Street and Hesse Street, Queenscliff, from 10am in readiness to step off at 10.15am. A service will be held at Fort Queenscliff at 10.30am. Wear a red poppy as a symbol of remembrance.

Portarlington & St Leonards Portarlington & St Leonards RSL Sub-Branch Inc will hold a Centenary of Armistice ceremony, including a medley of wartime songs by the Bellarine Community Choir, at The Cenotaph in Portarlington at 11am. Refreshments afterwards at the RSL, 8 Harding St in Portarlington.
