Remembrance Day services on the Bellarine
TO commemorate the centenary of the Armistice that ended World War I, the Bellarine will host a number of ceremonies this Monday, November 11.
Ocean Grove & Barwon Heads:
The Ocean Grove – Barwon Heads Sub-Branch will hold a Remembrance Day Service with Mr John Minotti and Barwon Heads Primary School students at Barwon Heads Community Hall, Hitchcock Ave at 10.45am.
Also, a Remembrance Day Service with Mr Phillip Christian at the Ocean Grove Cenotaph, Ocean Grove at 10.45am.
A committed group of volunteers are selling poppies for the Poppy Appeal at three stations in Ocean Grove and one in Barwon Heads.
Ocean Grove selling stations are located outside Safeway’s in Shell Road, Pharmasave Pharmacy in the Main Street and outside LiquourLand in the Coles supermarket carpark. Barwon Heads have one selling station, APCO Service Station as you enter/leave the town.
Portarlington & St Leonards:
The Portarlington & St Leonards RSL will hold a Remembrance Day ceremony at 11am at the Cenotaph, commemorating the “Centenary of the Cenotaph”, with the Bellarine Community Choir signing the National Anthem and an instrumental version of “and the band played Waltzing Matilda”. This will be followed by refreshments at the Sub-Branch, 8 Harding Street, Portarlington. All welcome.
Queenscliff & Pt Lonsdale:
The Queenscliff/Point Lonsdale RSL Sub-Branch will hold a Remembrance Day March to Fort Queenscliff. Assemble for the March at the Post Office on Hesse Street, Queenscliff, from 10am in readiness to step off at 10.15am. A service will be held at Fort Queenscliff at 10.30am. Wear a red poppy as a symbol of remembrance.
Drysdale:
Drysdale RSL will hold a ceremony that will commence at the Drysdale Cenotaph, opposite the CFA Station, at 10.45am. The ceremony will include a wreath laying and poppy laying service, and one minute’s silence will be observed at 11am.
Leopold:
The Leopold 2019 Remembrance Day service will be held at the Leopold War Memorial at 10.15am.
Mannerim:
Mannerim Memorial Indigenous Garden will host a Remembrance Day Service at 10.15am.
