THE Committee for Geelong (CfG) has announced AFL Commission chair Richard Goyder will be the guest speaker at its 2018 Leadership Breakfast.

The next instalment of CfG’s annual event will be at The Pier in February.

Before joining the AFL Commission, which is the governing body overseeing the top tier of Australian rules football, Mr Goyder was previously the chief executive officer and managing director of Wesfarmers.

He joined Wesfarmers in 1993, working in a number of roles before being appointed managing director and CEO in July 2005, where he served until he resigned from the role in November this year.

Mr Goyder has been part of the AFL Commission since September 2011, and succeeded Mike Fitzpatrick as chair in April this year.

He is also a director and chair-elect of oil and gas company Woodside, and a director on the board of Qantas.

In 2013, he was made an Officer in the Order of Australia for his distinguished service to business through executive roles and through the promotion of corporate sponsorship of the arts and Indigenous programs, and to the community.

Mr Goyder has been awarded an honourary Doctorate of Commerce from the University of Western Australia, and completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School in 1998.

Previous speakers at the Leadership Breakfast include British High Commissioner Menna Rawlings, Ambassador of the United States of America to Australia John Berry, World Vision chief executive officer Tim Costello, former Australian of the Year Ita Buttrose, corporate anthropologist Michael Henderson and international entrepreneur Graham Webb.

The 2018 CfG Leadership Breakfast will be held at The Pier, Geelong, on February 20 from 7am-9am. Tickets are $70 per person.
