THE Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club is teaming up with local mental health and suicide prevention charity The Shaka Project to make a real difference to youth in sport.
The pair of organisations will be bringing wellbeing to the forefront at the first carnival of the Life Saving Victoria season on November 15.
Sean Phillip from The Shaka Project will be giving a presentation to competitors about his own personal mental health journey and his mission to crush the stigma on speaking up.
He said he looked forward to imparting his wisdom and sharing his story.”Our first run of the session last year was terrific, and we will be hoping for much of the same again come November 15.
“This time, the session will be more focused on community involvement in the conversation around mental health.
“We will talk about the ways we can chat with our friends, family and in our sporting clubs to destigmatise talking about mental health.

“I’m really looking forward it.”Jan Juc SLSC competition manager Tim Watson said it was fantastic to be welcoming The Shaka Project down to the club for a second time.
“Sean is just a wonderful guy and as a club we are thrilled to be having him down to run a workshop.
“Hopefully all our competitors can get plenty out of it and take away some great mental health lessons and tips.”
The Shaka Project workshop session will be held from 3pm onwards in the Jan Juc SLSC clubrooms.
The event is free to attend and the whole community is invited.
