Roadwork delays expected on Great Ocean and Colac-Lavers Hill roads

August 16, 2019 BY

A series of roadworks are set to commence in the next few days, the first happening this weekend on Colac-Lavers Hill Road.

On both Saturday August 17 and Sunday August 18 traffic conditions will be changed as a tree is removed from the roadside.

People are advised to avoid the area, as delays of up to an hour are possible.

Traffic controllers will be at Ferguson and Gellibrand to advise drivers of delays throughout the day, with work set to be underway from 7:30am to 5pm each day.

Roadworks on the Great Ocean Road along the Cumberland River hillside are then set to begin on Monday August 19.

Abseiling crews have been descaling unstable rocks on the hillside since February.

So far these crews have descaled the lower and middle parts of the cliff, but to do the upper parts the road will have to be reduced to one lane, and two pull over areas will be closed. A 36-metre protective wall will also be erected on the Lorne side of the road.

Traffic will run one direction at a time, with traffic controllers on site during work times, and traffic lights being used off-hours.

Drivers may experience delays of up to 10 minutes when rocks are being lowered.

These arrangements are set to be in place until the end of November.
