Rod Run to roar across the Bellarine again

HUNDREDS of hot rods will roar down the Bellarine Highway next weekend when the Queenscliff Rod Run returns to its original format for the first time since 2020.

The annual three-day-event is run by Geelong Street Rodders, but was informally run in 2022 following an early cancellation to last year’s event.

This year, however, Geelong Street Rodders president Greg Morrissey said it was going to be a massive relief for the Hot Rod and Queenscliff community to see the Rod Run return to its original format on February 5.

“We’re already seeing a similar number of entries registered for the Show ‘N’ Shine on the Sunday, and now with entries officially closed, it’s a matter of preparing the best we can for the Sunday event at Princess Park.

“The main aim is always to get as many people down to the third day as possible, as all funds raised go directly to the Queenscliff Point Lonsdale Lions Club.

“Our two events on Friday and Saturday are only for registered drivers, but Sunday’s display show always provides a boon to the Queenscliff community, and accommodation is always hard to come by each year when the Rod Run comes through.”

The Queenscliff Rod Run requires a $5 entry fee from attendees and visitors, which goes to the local Lions Club, while the event itself offers music, trade stands and presentations for car owners and their vehicles to conclude the day.”

He said the club believed the majority of Queenscliff locals enjoyed having the event in their town, and Geelong Street Rodders as an organisation was grateful it could host the Rod Run there.

“The beauty of hosting an event like this in a smaller town like Queenscliff, is wherever you look all you see is hot rods, as opposed to larger spaces where everything gets a bit absorbed.

“It’s a terrific event and we’re happy to have it back to normal.”

The Show N Shine community event is scheduled to run from 10am to 2pm on February 5, but Mr Morrissey expected cars would start arriving well before the projected start time.
