ROLLING Pin Pies and Cakes has just officially opened its fourth store on the Bellarine.
With stores successfully operating in Ocean Grove’s town centre, Queenscliff and Leopold, the award-winning bakery last week opened its most recent store in Ocean Grove’s industrial estate.
Located at 17 Marine Parade, this new store also includes a big factory that will eventually become the businesses site for production.
“It’s a really big shed so ultimately the factory will become our site for production, and we’ll move everything over from our Ocean Grove shop,” Rolling Pin general manager Nathan Williams said.
“That will be a couple of years from now as there is no rush for that, but for the time being we’ve fitted out the showroom of our factory to be our new shop.
“We didn’t just want to do a token tradies shop, we wanted it to be like our other stores, so it’s an amazing fit out and we’re really proud of it.”
Mr Williams said the thought of one day having a factory with a shop attached had been something his family had been thinking about for the past 10 years.
“But as far as sheds being available in the area, this seemed to come up at the right time and it’s getting pretty tight in the bakehouse over in Ocean Grove, so we jumped on it,” Mr Williams said.
“We are not in any rush but we won’t rule out expanding more in the future, possibly Geelong way.”
Mr Williams said his family wanted to look after the people working in the industrial estate, and with Oakdene and Kingston estates expanding, they were able to serve that whole side of town too.
“We’ve had lots of tradies and workers and people walking their dogs from Kingston here, a real mix,” he said.
After winning many categories in The Great Aussie Pie Competition, Mr Williams said the Rolling Pin team were working hard to create some new pie flavours for next month’s competition.
“We’ve been playing around with new pie flavours that we will enter this year and we got some really great feedback at our last competition, so we want to have a real crack this year!”
Ocean Grove locals Geoff and Susie Chalker have owned the Ocean Grove Rolling Pin since 1997 and have gone on to open stores in Queenscliff in 2004 and Leopold in 2016.
They operate the business together with their daughters Kristy Williams and Stacey Lincoln, their son in law Nathan Williams and their five grandchildren are the official taste testers!
