Rotary’s art show makes successful return
THE Ocean Grove Rotary Club’s annual art show has made a successful return this year after its pandemic-related cancellation in 2020.
The 10th edition of the event was held over the weekend of November 27-28, and attracted 281 entries from 93 artists.
Organisers said they were extremely pleased with the number of artists and entries this year, especially as the show did not run at all last year.
Over the weekend, 25 artworks were sold.
City of Greater Geelong mayor Stephanie Asher, who officially opened the art show, congratulated all the artists and said she was impressed by the number and diversity of entries.
Winners included:
- Best Overall – “Beach Morning Fun” by Do Noble
- Printmaking – “Pines of Rome” by Anne Pinkas
- Painting – “The Source” by Annie Finkelde
- Drawing – “Africa’s Thunder – Buffalo with Lilac Breasted Rollers” by Kerrie Sullivan
- Abstract/Semi-Abstract – “The Point” by John Wood
- Australian Flora/Fauna – “The Stand Off” by Julie Reason.
Victorian Artists Society fellow Ted Dansey judged the exhibition.
Mr Dansey is a member and former general manager of the Victorian Artists Society, a member of the Watercolor Society of Victoria and a member of the Hobsons Bay Art Society.
Ocean Grove Rotary member and art show chair John Calnin said the art show had made contributions to charities Disabled Surfers and Riding Develops Abilities each year for the past 10 years.
“Both are extremely worthy causes that we are pleased to support,” Mr Calnin said.
The Ocean Grove Rotary Club is planning to hold a Treasured Art Sale in conjunction with a Rotary Summer Market early next year. More details will be distributed as soon as they are finalised.
