THE THIRD annual Ryan Gatgens Memorial Golf Day is set to be bigger than ever in 2023, with a twilight market, fireworks and a host of family-friendly activities being announced to compliment the golfing experience.

Set to be held on March 12 at the Clifton Springs Golf Club, the annual charity golf day exists to remember Drysdale man Ryan Gatgens who passed away in 2019 at the age of 32, following a battle with mental health.

In 2023, the event will again support Hope Bereavement Care and the goal is to raise $100,000, which will help more people get access their support and counselling services across the Greater Geelong region.

The event is suitable for people of all ages and all abilities.

“We’ve got a few extra things this year and really want to make it a big family day rather than just being about the golf,” event organiser Daniel Driscoll said.

“We are thrilled to have the Clifton Springs Golf Club take on a bigger role as well this year, it’ll make the event even bigger and better for us.

“The additions of the twilight market, fireworks, petting zoo, live music and kids games will certainly add to the day.

A total of 400 golfers will be able to enter into the golfing component of the day.

“We hope to get to $100,000 this year and early signs are looking really good from some big donations that have come through thus far, including one from the Clifton Springs Golf Club.

“The overall support will definitely help us achieve our goals.”

Outside of the addition of the market and activities for both kids and adults, the golfing component of the event will be run in three different waves (7.30am, 10.30am and 1.30pm).

Event organisers are hopeful of raising $100,000 in 2023.

A nine-hole four person Ambrose tournament competition will allow the event to draw 400 entries, guaranteeing a great turnout on the day.

All abilities of golfers are welcome, and a special barbecue breakfast and lunch will also be included.

“The event has continued to grow and be way bigger than we expected, raising $55,000 in its first year and jumping up to $80,000 last year,” Mr Driscoll said.

Plenty of amazing prizes will be up for grabs in the raffle and prize draw.

“We really hope people can attend, buy raffle tickets and get around the cause because it’s a really good one.”

Since its inception, the Ryan Gatgens Memorial Golf Day has contributed $125,000 to Hope Bereavement Care.
