ORGANISERS of the Ryan Gatgens Memorial Golf Day are hoping to bring families together as the annual event returns for its fifth year this weekend.

To be held on Sunday, March 9, the fundraiser will raise money for Hope Bereavement Care, while spreading awareness for mental health.

The Ryan Gatgens Memorial Golf Day is held in honour of its namesake who passed away in 2019 following a battle with mental health.

Since its inception the event has raised more than $220,000.

While around 380 golfers will take to the fairway for a nine-hole, three-person Ambrose game, the club will host a variety of free activities throughout the day including a jumping castle, petting zoo, mini golf, facepainting and more.

“It’s a totally free event for anyone that’s not playing golf to come down and bring the families down,” event organiser Daniel Driscoll said.

“We just ask that in exchange, if anyone wants to donate or contribute to the charity, then we’ve got plenty of auction items and there’s raffle tickets for sale all day.”

The annual event will provide entertainment for people of all ages and will include a petting zoo.

Mr Driscoll said while they want to raise as much money as possible throughout the day, the event has gone beyond that.

“It’s as much about raising awareness for mental health and to let people know that there’s places out there or things that they can do if they’re struggling.

“Hopefully the day helps others realise that there’s other ways they can go about it if they are struggling with it.”

Mr Driscoll thanked all the sponsors of the event and those who donated prizes, saying organisers are overwhelmed with the generosity of local businesses every year.

Golfers will tee off from 7.30am while children’s activities run from 11am until 3pm. Live music, a raffle and the auction will be held from 6pm.
