Sailing club farewells a champion

January 12, 2018 BY

A MUCH-appreciated member of the Torquay Sailing Club has sought moorings elsewhere.

Ian Champion, a stalwart of the club for more than eight years, moved home in November from Torquay to the Mornington Peninsula.

An outstanding sailor, Mr Champion was instrumental in helping to establish the club’s “Try Sailing Workshops”, acted as race officer and collator of racing results, was a key volunteer in all the club’s activities and working bees, and did a sterling job in managing the club’s Australia Day regattas.

In 2016, as a mark of his contribution to the club he was awarded the trophy for “Best Club Member of the Year”.

Last year, Mr Champion also became state champion in the Arrow-class sailing championships, held at Altona.

The Torquay Sailing Club wishes Mr Champion and his wife Kay the best of good fortune for their future.
