THE Salvation Army will bring a musical touch to this year’s Remembrance Day commemorations, with the Salvation Army Staff Band to join the Torquay RSL’s service at Point Danger.

The November 11 service will be especially significant, as it will mark the 100th anniversary of the Armistice – the end of World War I.

The ceremony will include a formal wreath laying, and is expected to be attended by many residents as well as visitors.

A lone bugler from the Geelong West Brass Band will sound the “Last Post” as vintage aircraft fly over Point Danger.

Torquay RSL will run a sausage sizzle next to the ceremony site, with gold coin donations to go towards Torquay RSL’s Welfare Fund.

After the ceremony, the Salvation Army Staff Band will move to Elephant Walk for a free concert, to be held between 1-3pm.

In related news, Torquay Museum Without Walls recently received a grant from the Department of Veteran’s Affairs to publish into a book the research from the website togthertheyserved.com for distribution to family members and local community organisations.

Torquay Museum Without Walls is on a quest to collect photographs of those featured on the Surf Coast Shire’s World War I honour boards from all its local towns.

If you have a photograph of someone you think was from the shire (formerly known as the Winchelsea, South Barwon and Barrabool shires), head to togethertheyserved.com to search for the name, or phone 0458 973 232 to arrange for the museum to copy your photo.
