SAMANTHA Pownall from Barwon Heads 13th Beach Surf Life Saving Club has been selected to represent Australia at the Lifesaving World Championships in Adelaide this November.

Pownall is one of eight athletes who make up an all- Victorian Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) racing squad, with the other seven members from Williamstown Swimming and Lifesaving Club.

The team was chosen at an extra selection trial meet on the Gold Coast in late July, after a full day of racing was cancelled due to rough conditions at the Australian IRB Championships earlier in the month.

All selected racers competed at the Australian IRB Championships at Thirroul Beach during July, where Victoria’s Williamstown Swimming and Life Saving Club (S&LSC) IRB racing squad took out the title.

The Life Saving World Championships are held around the globe every two years, showcasing excellence in lifesaving sports and rescue, attracting the most talented and skilled lifesaving athletes to compete for the title of World’s best.

This year’s addition will be held in Adelaide from November 16 to December 2, and feature surf, pool, beach, IRB, and surfboat events contested by athletes from all around the world.
