Save Barwon Heads keeps urging town boundary support
THE Save Barwon Heads Alliance (SBHA) is again calling on locals to make a submission to the City of Greater Geelong in support of retaining their town boundary.
The request comes as the second and formal consultation phase in response to the Draft Barwon Heads Structure Plan 2017 nears closing on March 13.
The group says that submissions in support of retaining the boundary is critical in demonstrating to the new councillors how committed the community is to protecting the values that make Barwon Heads such a special place.
“The council has anticipated that developers will object to this amendment, which retains the town boundary and a Victorian Planning Panel hearing has been scheduled to commence on August 20,” SBHA states.
“SBHA will represent its members at the panel and will bring expert witnesses to testify to the values of the wetlands and the threat that development poses to the environment and the quality of life of Barwon Heads residents.”
Last year in May, City of Greater Geelong’s strategic planners released the Draft Barwon Heads Structure Plan 2017, which recognised that the town was not a designated growth area within the council municipality, and recommended its boundary stay where it was.
SBHA delivered 1,050 submissions to the city’s planning office in support of this recommendation, but now the second and formal consultation phase is scheduled to close on March 13.
