Seagulls add another win to battle tally

BARWON Heads has cemented its place at the top of the BFL ladder after taking out the Battle of the Bridge against Ocean Grove at the weekend.

The Seagulls beat the Grubbers by 21 points in wet and windy conditions at Howard Harmer Oval on Saturday, winning 12.6 (78) to 8.9 (57).

It was the 104th time the teams came face to face for the rivalry match.

Barwon Heads now remains the only undefeated side on the BFL ladder with 12 points, followed closely by Ocean Grove, which has one loss now and eight points.

The Seagulls have won the last eight meetings between the two teams.

The last time they met was in Round 14 2017, when Barwon Heads won 10.19 (79) to Ocean Grove 7.12 (54) at Howard Harmer Oval.

Meanwhile, in Round 1 of the 2018 Epworth Senior Women’s competition, Ocean Grove beat Barwon Heads by 61 points at Howard Harmer Oval on Sunday, winning 9.10 (64) to 0.3 (3).

Geelong Amateur will take on Barwon Heads at Queen’s Park this Saturday at 2.10pm, while Ocean Grove battles Newcomb at Ray Menzies Oval at 5.10pm. To see Tom King’s BFL Round 4 preview, click here.
