CLIMATE change and the soaring cost of living were hot topics when Senator Janet Rice met with Bellarine local Greens supporters at Basils Farm in Swan Bay on Sunday.

Senator Rice is a Greens senator in the federal parliament representing Victoria.

“It was wonderful to be down on the beautiful Bellarine and meet with local Greens supporters who care deeply about their community,” Senator Rice said.

“They were really concerned about climate change and its impact on the local environment, especially with sea level rise, as well as the soaring cost of living and difficulties getting to Geelong and Melbourne because of unreliable, infrequent or non-existent public transport.”

Senator Rice said there was a lot of support for Australia to embrace renewable energy to tackle climate change and bring down the cost of energy, and ensure better public transport links on the Bellarine to ensure locals can easily and affordably travel to Geelong and Melbourne.

“Another issue we discussed that’s very close to my heart was the plight of the threatened Hooded Plovers,” she said.

“It’s wonderful to see so many people who care about these precious birds.”
