Seniors take to the sea to help celebrate festival

October 17, 2019 BY

Rod and Dee from the Portarlington Community Information Booth welcome seniors into Portarlington.

ABOUT 250 seniors packed into a passenger ferry from Melbourne to Portarlington last week in celebration of the 2019 Victorian Seniors Festival.
The Festival is all about getting out there and having fun – so to celebrate Port Phillip Ferries offered half-price travel on concession tickets for seniors between October 7 and 11.
Connie Trathen from PPF said it was a “huge week, with record numbers”.
Get into it! was the theme of this year’s Festival – and with a host of events all across Victoria covering music, theatre, film, literature and sport, there was a chance for all seniors to do just that.
Meanwhile, the Geelong Seniors Festival, which runs during the whole month of October, is the largest community celebration for seniors in regional Victoria and a major partner of the statewide Victorian Seniors Festival.
As well as being a great opportunity to get out and about for little or no cost, the Festival provides a rare insight into what is on in Geelong for the rest of the year, as most of the events are staged by local clubs and interest groups.
The Companion Card is welcome at all Geelong Seniors Festival events.
