Shaping the future of Greater Geelong, together

WHAT do you see when you picture the future of our region?

For some, it’s safer roads and smoother footpaths. For others, it’s more trees, better childcare, or a stronger voice for young people.

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, however, right now we’ve got a chance to share with the City of Greater Geelong what most matters to each of us on the Bellarine.

The draft Council Plan for 2025–29 is currently open for community feedback and it’s vital as many of you as possible have your say on what matters to you.

This is the plan that will guide what Council focuses on over the next four years and beyond. It’ll direct how Council makes its decisions, where it puts its money and what it delivers for local people.

It covers a lot: everything from keeping our infrastructure in good shape, to improving community health and wellbeing, supporting local jobs and businesses, and protecting what makes this region special.

For the Bellarine, you might have thoughts on whether our sporting infrastructure and other community facilities are fit for purpose, or that we have responsible and sustainable growth and development.

Alternatively, you might be focussed on ensuring we have services and facilities that enhance health and wellbeing for all, or you might like to see further efforts to strengthen our diverse economic precincts.

The draft Council Plan sets out six key objectives: core and critical infrastructure, healthy and caring community, economic development, heritage and cultural identity, environment and circular economy and governance and integrity.

There are also clear actions and progress measures built in, so the community can see what’s being done – and whether it’s working.

But here’s the important bit: it’s still a draft, which means your feedback can shape the final version.

The plan’s already been informed by early community consultation, including a citizen panel but we know not everyone gets the chance to be part of those early sessions.

That’s why this public feedback phase is so important, so that anyone who cares about where we’re headed can have their say.

Maybe you’ve got something to say about transport, early education, the environment, parks or waste services.

Maybe you’re worried about growth outpacing infrastructure or maybe you just want to know your rates are being spent wisely.

Whatever matters to you, this is the time to make sure your voice is heard.

We know there’s a lot going on in people’s lives and that local government planning might not always grab the headlines.

But this is a practical way to make your voice heard and influence the future of our region.

The draft Council Plan is open for feedback until June 25. It doesn’t take long to read and even just a few comments can make a difference.

Head to yoursay.geelongaustralia.com.au/CP202529 to take a look and share your thoughts.

This is your region, and your future – and your voice should help shape it.
