THE City of Greater Geelong is encouraging residents to share what living in the region is really like.

A new community views survey is now live and will help the city learn what is working well, what can be improved and what makes the region special.

Questions will focus on what people believe makes the region a good place to live, how they experience the local area and what needs changing to improve quality of life.

All responses will be kept anonymous and will be used to inform strategic planning, advocacy and service delivery, guide local improvements, support benchmarking and strengthen place-based priorities.

City of Greater Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the survey was less about statistics and more about stories.

“Data tells us a lot, but lived experience tells us even more.

“This survey is more than ticking boxes. We’re asking open-ended questions and encouraging explanation and elaboration.”

The survey will gather qualitative and sentiment-based results, measuring 16 liveability measures including safety, housing and wellbeing.

Once collected, the information will complement the data already used in strategic planning.

Cr Chris Burson said the survey will shed light on the realities of everyday life across the region.

“By sharing your perspective, you’re helping us see our city through your eyes,” he said.

All participants who provide their email address will go in the running for one of five $100 Eftpos vouchers.

The survey will close in mid-October.
