Shock and oar: Lorne boats take honours at Grove
SURF boats took to the waters of Ocean Grove Beach last Sunday for a day of racing during the Victorian Surf Rowers League (VSRL) carnival.
Crews from all over Victoria’s surf and bay side clubs fought for gold, silver and bronze medals.
Across senior and junior divisions, 47 crews competed in 44 races over the day, with racing fast and furious in the trying conditions.
The Lorne Surf Lifesaving Club took out first place in every open and reserve race, and are now set to represent Victoria at the Australian championships at Elouera Beach next month.
Lorne crews including, the 31s, Edge, Atics and WASAVICS will represent Victoria in the open mens, open womens, reserve mens and reserve womens.
Lorne boat captain Geoff Matthews has also been named Captain of the Victorian team.
The Lorne SLSC won two new sweep oars for their victories on Sunday.
Torquay SLSC also had a successful day of racing, taking out podium places in the open male, open female, reserve female, under 23 male and under 19 male divisions
