A WALKING trail from Point Roadknight to Guvvo’s beach in Anglesea was closed yesterday (Thursday, July 17) following the discovery of a deep sinkhole.

The trail remains closed, and the public safety risk is being investigated by the Surf Coast Shire, which believes it could be related to the stormwater drain under the sand dune.

Further assessment will take place once low tide conditions allow safe access.

“We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we work to ensure the area is safe,” the shire stated on its Facebook page.

Safety netting has been put up around the sinkhole, and walkers are asked to please follow all signage on site.

The public can still get access to the back beach via a walking track off Melba Parade just up from the car park.
