Sir Elton to rocket back to Geelong
THE Rocket Man is rocketing back to Geelong later this year.
Sir Elton John will return to the Mt Duneed Estate winery on December 7 as part of the latest dates on his international farewell tour, which will be staged here as part of A Day on the Green concert series.
Tickets go on sale for the show on Tuesday June 25, and A Day on the Green promoter Michael Newton said Sir Elton’s performance – one of six new shows on the Australian-New Zealand leg – will be a night of epic surprises.
“Australia and New Zealand, I can’t wait to be with you again,” Sir Elton said. “Your audiences have always been very generous towards me, and I know that this final tour will be the most memorable ever.”
The bestselling British singer, songwriter and pianist first played in Geelong at the same venue in December 2015 to a sold-out crowd of 20,000 people, and Mr Newton said Mt Duneed Estate was a key factor in securing Sir Elton.
“The fact is we’ve got a 20,000-capacity venue, and it draws not only from Melbourne but from Geelong, the Surf Coast and beyond as well.”
Sir Elton’s show – part of the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour – will span about three hours and feature all his greatest hits.
“It’s one of the best live shows you’ll see, hands down,” Mr Newton said.
“I already know grandparents who are going with their grandkids.
“I don’t want to give too much away, because there’ll be some really epic surprises on the night.
” Mount Duneed Estate has most recently hosted capacity crowds for Florence + The Machine and the Red Hot Chili Peppers (the latter of which sold out in record time), and Mr Newton said A Day on the Green was resonating with local audiences.
“I spend a lot of time on the Surf Coast myself, and I literally hear people in the shops and the cafes talking about the shows, which is very gratifying.”
He would not be drawn on who A Day on the Green had slated for future concerts.
“All I can say is this summer’s going to be huge.”
