HANDY people are invited to volunteer their services at the first Repair Café event in Queenscliff next month.

Local group Transition Towns Borough of Queenscliffe, in association with the Queenscliff and District Men’s Shed, will hold the Repair Café at Queenscliffe Neighbourhood House on Saturday October 6.

A Repair Café is an event where specialist volunteers endeavour to fix broken items for the cost of parts and a small donation.

Transition Towns Borough of Queenscliffe is inviting people with skills such as sewing and mending, jewellery and clock repairs, and information technology, to donate their time and capabilities at the Queenscliff Repair Café.

People are also invited to bring all sorts of broken items, apart from electrical goods, to the Repair Café.

There will also be tools and materials available for people who would like to have a go at “do-it-yourself” repairs, and the Repair Café specialists will be on hand to provide advice and guidance.

Transition Towns Borough of Queenscliffe hopes the Repair Café will create connections in the community, as well as helping people to reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfill, minimise CO2 emissions and save money.

The Repair Café event will run from 10am until noon.

To volunteer as a Repair Café specialist phone Transition Towns Borough of Queenscliffe Coordinator Brooke Connor on 0422 705 768, or for more information visit repaircafe.org.
