Snooker club looking to pot more members
A QUAINT snooker club at Ocean Grove with almost 60 years of history and skills behind it, is opening the doors to new members.
Founded in 1963 with just a handful of members, Ocean Grove Snooker Club has remained a friendly and skillful location for members to play.
“We have a wonderful afternoon on a Tuesday and Thursday at around 1.30pm, playing Snooker, chatting, and more importantly, mixing with each other on a friendly basis,” club president Kevin Callinan said.
“There are currently four people playing and we look forward to more members joining us. We have two tables, one of which is being reclothed, so the more the merrier.”
New members who want to test their skills or learn from the best need look out for Bill Smith.
“The best player now is undoubtedly Bill who, at the ripe old age of 95, yes, I have said his age correctly, hits the ball in the hole with the greatest of ease and always sets the white ball where he wants it,” Mr Lock said.
Beginners or those new to the game are more than welcome to join the club.
Members pay an annual fee of $20 per year and snooker is played at the Ocean Grove Citizens Club, home to a community of more than 80 people.
The Citizen Club located at 101 The Terrace, Ocean Grove supplies all the necessary equipment needed to get a snooker fix for the day.
