Space Ukes want to see member numbers soar

December 5, 2018 BY

Janet Chalmers enjoys playing the ukulele at the St Leonards Community Space.

THE Space Ukes group believes in making music a fun and enjoyable experience, no matter what skill level you are.

Space Ukes is a friendly ukulele club on the Bellarine that is open to all acoustics players (guitar, mandolin, banjo, hand drum, etc.) or singers to join in their jam sessions.

Space Ukes founder Janet Chambers enjoys playing and teaching how to play the uke.

She takes delight playing new songs, playing for others with fellow club members and encouraging novices and those returning to improve their ukulele skills.

Janet will introduce new chords or simple enhancements as everyone becomes more familiar with the song set.

She also leads the group to play each song and takes extra time to look at special riffs, strums and chord changes.

If you are new to the uke or just want to try the user-friendly ukulele out – join the St Leonards Space Ukes, or, if you do not have a uke, don’t worry as they have spare ukuleles available just for you to practice with.

There is no pressure to come every week or for you to feel nervous about playing with others.

The Space Ukes believes that sharing music should be collaborative, fun and instructional. Space Ukes is a welcoming group and wants to share their love of music with all comers.

They also regularly perform at local nursing homes and community events.

The group gathers weekly every on Thursday at 1pm and the Beginners meet Fridays (except public holidays) at the St Leonards Community Space, 3/1377 Murradoc Road (corner Blanche Street), St Leonards. For more details, phone Janet on (03) 5216 9255 or email [email protected].
