THE City of Greater Geelong has declared a Special Charge Scheme
to support the sealing of a 105m section of Drysdale’s Newcombe Street, between Princess Street and The Glen.
The proposed works aim to enhance local access and amenity in response to concerns raised by nearby residents.
The total estimated cost of the project is $132,768, with the city committing $38,724.00 (29 per cent) of the funding.
The remaining $94,044 (71 per cent) would be contributed by the owners of 10 properties that directly benefit from the improvements.
The scheme would apply for a period of five years from the date it is levied.
Councillors moved to declare the special charge scheme at their most recent meeting.
Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the decision reflected the city’s ongoing commitment to supporting the community’s desire for improving infrastructure across the municipality.
“Under this scheme, the user experience and livability of Newcombe Street will be improved.
“These improvements will make a real difference for the residents who use the road every day.”
Cr Rowan Story said the upgrade will help strengthen community connections in addition to improving safety.
“By working together with residents, we’re delivering practical improvements that respond directly to the needs of the Drysdale community.”
