SPORTS Courts Victoria’s journey from industry newcomer to one of the state’s biggest suppliers of modular sports courts has been defined by innovation and adaptability.
The Breakwater business sprang onto the scene in 2009, the product of more than 20 years of owner and managing director Jason Cobb’s experience in construction and road repairs.
As demand for sports courts increased and his work naturally transitioned to focus on delivering hard courts to clients, Mr Cobb realised he needed a product that could be installed all year round.
After two years of research, he ditched the seasonally restrictive hard courts for modular tiles able to create a professional-grade surface that also offers innumerable benefits to clients, including a more consistent bounce, less maintenance and cheaper repairs.
From commercial gyms and residential properties to schools and major sporting facilities across the state, it’s a product in high demand. And the feedback speaks for itself.

“Most people mention our names personally and mention my staff’s names personally. That’s really important to us. My boys get a real buzz out of it too,” Mr Cobb said.
This success has been aided in no small way by the business’s strong, trademarked ‘Slam Man’ brand – an uncommon but invaluable approach that has set Sports Courts Victoria apart from its competitors.
Riding this momentum, Sports Courts Victoria has this year been named a finalist in the 2025 Geelong Business Excellence Awards (GBEAs), sponsored by LBW Business + Wealth Advisors.
It is the business’s first entry to the awards program, sparked by a nomination from Sports Courts Victoria’s accountant.
Mr Cobb said while it hasn’t been an easy road, with plenty of sleepless nights along the way, he wouldn’t change a thing.
“I don’t have to drag myself out of bed ever to go to work. So that probably tells you I’m in the right job,” he said.
