St Leonards boat ramp set for major upgrades
THE popular St Leonards boat ramp is set for significant upgrades, with construction scheduled to start in late May and be complete in time for summer.
Funded by the state government through recreational boating licence and registration fees, the improvements aim to enhance the boating experience.
Member for Bellarine, Alison Marchant, highlighted the importance of the ramp as a local asset.
“St Leonards is one of the most popular spots to hit the water on the Bellarine Peninsula, and this project will provide more protection for boaters when they’re heading out or coming back to the ramp,” Ms Marchant said.
“The ramp is a key community asset and local boaters have been passionate about this project, so this significant step toward construction will be welcome news.”
Designed to facilitate easier access to nearby fishing grounds, the project will improve conditions for launching and retrieving boats.
Key enhancements include a rebuilt 65-metre jetty, an expanded T-section, and the installation of wave screens for better protection against the wind.
Additional features will ensure all-abilities access, including a new accessible gangway and a boat lift.
Shaped by extensive community consultation, the design also incorporates new fenders and cleats to assist boaters.
The ramp will be closed during the construction phase, with updates available online.
Boaters are encouraged to use the Boating Vic app for alternative ramp locations and local conditions.
