St Leonards committee celebrates win for town
MEMBERS of the St Leonards Beautification Committee are celebrating a win towards making their town look more cared for.
The group received word from the City of Greater Geelong on December 14 that it would work closely with Regional Roads Victoria to improve an unsealed parking area on Murradoc Road at St Leonards.
Acting director of city services Debbie Leeson- Rabie, said the city was now finalising designs for kerb and channel and road widening works in the commercial area along Murradoc Road, from Blanche Street heading west.
“The project is progressing well and we will continue working closely with VicRoads on finalising plans for stage one,” Ms Leeson- Rabie said.
“We are working to get stage one works underway as soon as possible and expect them to be completed by mid-2019.
“It’s critical that we schedule these works at a time that minimises any potential disruption, especially during the busy summer trading and tourism period.”
St Leonards Beautification Group convenor Denis O’Bryan said this was great news for the town’s retail district and something long overdue.
“We know that Phil and the Progress Association have been pushing for this for many years, as have traders and the community.
“It’s great we could build on their hard work and help push it across the line in this financial year.”
RRV will also carry out asphalt repairs to the intersection of Murradoc Road and Portarlington- Queenscliff Road, and asphalting works on Murradoc Road west of Bluff Road.
